Why You Aren't Happy..
People want freedom and happiness but are confused about how to get them.
Ask most individuals what they're working on, and they'll tell you they're trying to become a millionaire, buy that luxury car, get that hot chick, or gain more followers, whatever.
Here's the interesting part...
If you ask them why they are doing it, you'll see that they really want to be free and happy, and they think that the only way to get there is by getting something or someone.
Can't you see the irony here?
This is called 'Conditional happiness.'
"I'll be happy if I get this sports car."
"I'll be free to do whatever I want if I make $1M."
I'll be happy if she becomes my wife."
When these things happen, life is ‘good’ for these people.
When they don't, they think it's ‘bad.’
Imagine living your whole life based on ‘if’ something happens...
A Stoic looks at all these things and shakes his head at the immense effort required to get there and the painful stress needed to keep them.
Is it really worth it?
You can decide only for yourself.
But if you want freedom—that's easy. It's in your choices.
But if you want happiness—that's easy too. It's in your choices.
Start applying it to every moment of your day.
"You could enjoy this very moment all the things you are praying to reach by taking the long way around--if you'd stop depriving yourself of them," says Marcus Aurelius.
Do you still believe that happiness is somewhere 'out there'?
